It can sometimes be difficult for us to maintain compatibility with older hardware, as there have been multiple revisions over the years and different firmware versions.
If you shoot me an email, I think the easiest thing to do here would just be to exchange your encoder for a newer model for free.
Getting our hands on the unit that is giving issues will help us diagnose potential other problems as well.
